Double Board-Certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon

Dr. Tyler Okland’s Training, Board Certifications and Academic Credentials

Dr. Tyler Okland is a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Denver whose practice is devoted exclusively to the nose, face and neck. His training includes five years of residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Stanford University followed by an additional fellowship year in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Vanderbilt University.

That pathway was deliberate. A facial plastic surgeon must understand beauty, but also breathing, facial movement, structural support and the way living tissue changes over time. Dr. Okland’s training was built around both sides of that responsibility: protecting function and pursuing an exceptional aesthetic result.

Board Certification

Expertise is built in layers.

Board certification is not a synonym for aesthetic judgment, and it should never be the only reason to choose a surgeon. It is, however, objective evidence that a physician has completed defined standards of training, case review and examination.

01 Board Certification American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery

Certification in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery reflects Dr. Okland’s training in the medical and surgical care of the nose, airway, face, head and neck. That functional foundation is central to his approach to rhinoplasty: the nose is never treated as an aesthetic object separate from the organ underneath it.

02 Board Certification American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Certification by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is focused specifically on surgery of the face and nose. Eligibility requires prior board certification in an accepted surgical specialty, facial plastic surgery case review, a minimum period in practice, and successful written and oral examinations.

Perspective

What Credentials Can — and Cannot — Tell You

Credentials establish a foundation. They do not create taste, guarantee perfection or make every surgeon right for every patient.

Facial plastic surgery still requires judgment: knowing what to change, what to preserve and when the technically possible is not aesthetically or functionally wise.

Dr. Okland believes patients should evaluate the entire picture: training, board certification, operative focus, published work, results, philosophy, communication and the way a surgeon cares for patients after the operation.

Having cosmetic surgery on your face is intimate. The credentials matter because they demonstrate the work required to earn that responsibility. What ultimately matters is how that preparation is applied to the individual patient who places their trust in him.
